Storage units represent your physical storage locations where ingredients and products are kept.
What Are Storage Units?
Storage units are locations such as:
- Walk-in coolers/refrigerators
- Freezers
- Dry storage areas
- Pantries
- Bar storage
- Main kitchen areas
- Prep areas
Viewing Storage Units
To view your storage units:
- Go to Manage → Storage
- View a table/list of all your storage units
- Each unit shows:
- Unit ID
- Storage unit name
- Address
- Creation date
Creating a Storage Unit
To add a new storage unit:
- Go to Manage → Storage
- Click the + button or Add Storage Unit
- Fill in the storage unit form:
- Name (required): e.g., “Walk-in Cooler”, “Main Freezer”
- Address (optional): Location or address details
- Click Save or Create
The storage unit is now added to your list.
Editing a Storage Unit
To modify an existing storage unit:
- Find the storage unit in the list
- Click the edit button (three dots menu → Edit)
- Update the details:
- Change the name
- Update the address
- Save your changes
Deleting a Storage Unit
To remove a storage unit:
- Find the storage unit in the list
- Click the more actions button (three dots icon)
- Select Delete
- Confirm the deletion
Note: Be careful when deleting storage units. Ensure no ingredients are linked to it, or those links will be lost.
Viewing Storage Unit Details
Click on a storage unit to view:
- Full details of the storage unit
- List of ingredients stored at this location (if linked)
- Any notes or additional information
Storage Unit Organization Tips
Naming Conventions
Use clear, descriptive names:
- Include temperature type: “Walk-in Cooler”, “Deep Freezer”
- Include location: “Main Kitchen Pantry”, “Bar Refrigerator”
- Be specific: “Prep Area Cooler” vs. just “Cooler”
Common Storage Types
- Cold Storage: Walk-in coolers, reach-in refrigerators
- Frozen Storage: Walk-in freezers, chest freezers
- Dry Storage: Pantries, dry goods storage
- Service Areas: Bar, coffee station
- Prep Areas: Prep kitchen, baking area
Linking Ingredients to Storage
When managing ingredients, you can specify which storage unit they’re kept in:
- Helps with inventory organization
- Supports stock taking by location
- Integrates with POS systems that track by location

Integration with Sides POS
If you use Sides POS:
- Storage units can be mapped to Sides stores/locations
- Enables inventory sync between systems
- Tracks ingredient usage by location

Search and Filter
On the storage units page:
- Search: Find storage units by name or address
- Sort: Order by name, date created, etc.
- Filter: If available, filter by type or status
Best Practices
- Create all storage units upfront: Set up your full storage structure before adding ingredients
- Use consistent naming: Make it easy for your team to identify locations
- Include addresses: Especially useful for multi-location operations
- Regular review: Periodically review and update storage unit information
- Don’t delete in use: Verify storage unit isn’t linked to ingredients before deleting

Troubleshooting
Cannot Create Storage Unit
- Verify required fields are filled (Name)
- Check you have permissions
- Try refreshing the page
Storage Unit Not Appearing
- Check search/filter settings
- Verify it was saved successfully
- Refresh the page
Cannot Delete Storage Unit
- Check if ingredients are linked to it
- Verify you have deletion permissions
- Unlink ingredients first, then delete
